Jogiya Baba ka Sthan (Rock-cut Sculptures), Sindursi, Jabalpur
This group of Rock-cut sculptures
is called the place of Jogiya Baba. Sculptures of Narsimha, Sheshshaye Vishnu,
Sthanak Vishnu and Mahishasur Mardini have been carved in the rock from left to
right.
1) Dwi-Bhuji Yogi Narsimha:- This
image is carved in Yogic posture. Its right hand is on the knee and the left
hand is on the palthi. This is probably, an image of Narsimha.
2) Sheshshayee Vishnu: - The
four-armed Vishnu is resting on a Sheshshayee having seven hoods. On the lotus
arising from Nabhi is seated a three faced Brahma in padmasana. Narad holding
veena in the parikar, a male figure holding a sword and the figure of Garuda
with seven hoods are carved.
3) Chaturbhuji Vishnu:- The
standing Chaturbhuji Vishnu holding padma, shankh, chakra etc. In his four arms
figures of upasaka and upasaka with folded hands is carved at his feet.
4) Mahishasur Mardini:- The four
armed goddess killing demon Mahishasur is depicted. She holds trident, sword
and shield in her hands and the left hand is Katyavlambit. All this four images
were carved in the 5th-6th century A.D. during the Gupta period.
