महाबोधी महोत्सव (सांची उत्सव)
प्रत्येक वर्ष नवंबर के आखिरी रविवार को विश्व प्रसिद्ध पर्यटन स्थल सांची में महाबोधी महोत्सव मनाया जाता है। इस महोत्सव की शुरूआत वर्ष 1952 में नवंबर के अंतिम रविवार को सांची के बौद्ध स्तूप परिसर स्थित चैत्यगिरि विहार मंदिर के लोकार्पण समारोह के रूप में हुई थी। चैत्यगिरि विहार का निर्माण सांची स्तूप स्थित परिसर में महाबोधी सोसायटी श्रीलंका द्वारा किया गया था। उक्त चैत्य विहार की देखरेख का कार्य भी उक्त सोसायटी द्वारा ही किया जाता है। जिसमें पंण्डित जवाहरलाल नेहरू शामिल हुए थे। तभी से हर साल नवंबर में इस समारोह को मनाने की परंपरा चली आ रही है। डाॅ0 राजेन्द्र प्रसाद ने भी इस महोत्सव में शामिल होकर अस्थि कलश की पूजा अर्चना की थी।
भगवान बुद्ध के प्रमुख शिष्य सारिपुत्र भंते और महा मोदगल्यान के अस्थि कलश वर्ष 1851 में सांची स्थित स्तूप क्रमांक 03 की खुदाई में मिले थे। उन अस्थिकलशों को वर्ष 1952 में सांची के बौद्ध स्तूप परिसर स्थित चैत्यगिरि बिहार मंदिर में लाया जाकर रखा गया था। पहली बार चैत्यगिरि विहार मंदिर के गर्भगृह में वर्ष 2019 में पारदर्शी क्रिस्टल बाक्स में अस्थि कलशों को आम जनता के दर्शन के लिए सजाकर रखा गया है। पूर्व में अस्थि कलशों को तांबे के गोलाकार बाॅक्सों में रखा गया था। महोत्सव में वियतनाम, जापान, श्रीलंका, थाईलैण्ड, म्यांमार, सिंगापुर से आये हुए बौद्ध अनुयायियों द्वारा भाग लिया जाता है। महोत्सव में भगवान बुद्ध और उनके दोनों शिष्यों सारिपुत्र और महा मोदगल्यान की प्रतिमाओं से सजी हुई पालकी की कलश यात्रा निकाली जाती है जिसमें बौद्ध श्रृद्धालुगण पालकी को अपने कंधे पर लेकर चलते हैं और अस्थि कलश की पूजा अर्चना तथा दर्शन किये जाते हैं। चल समारोह के साथ मुख्य स्तूप की परिक्रमा की जाती है। सूर्योदय के पूर्व अस्थिकलशों को वापिस चैत्यगिरि बिहार के तलघर में रखकर डबल लाॅक से सीलबंद कर दिया जाता है। वर्ष 2019 में उक्त समारोह 23 नवंबर एवं 24 नवंबर को दो दिन मनाया गया था।

Every year on the last Sunday of November, Mahabodhi Festival is celebrated in the world famous tourist destination Sanchi. The festival started in the year 1952 on the last Sunday of November as the inauguration ceremony of the Chaityagiri Vihar Temple at the Buddhist Stupa complex in Sanchi. Chaityagiri Vihar was built by the Mahabodhi Society Sri Lanka in the premises located at Sanchi Stupa. The maintenance of the said Chaitya Vihar is also done by the said society. In which Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru was involved. Since then, the tradition of celebrating this ceremony in November every year has been going on. Dr. Rajendra Prasad also attended the festival and worshiped the ashes.
Sariputra Bhante, the principal disciple of Lord Buddha, and the bone urn of Maha Modagalyaan were met in the year 1851 in the excavation of Stupa No. 03 at Sanchi. Those asthikalas were brought to the Chaityagiri Bihar temple located in the Buddhist Stupa complex of Sanchi in the year 1952. For the first time in the year 2019 in the sanctum sanctorum of the Chaityagiri Vihar temple, the urns have been decorated in transparent crystal box for the public. In the past, the urns were placed in spherical boxes of copper. The festival is attended by Buddhist followers from Vietnam, Japan, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Myanmar, Singapore. The festival depicts the Kalash Yatra of a palanquin adorned with statues of Lord Buddha and his two disciples Sariputra and Maha Modagalyaan,in which Buddhist aristocrats carry the palanquin on their shoulders and offer prayers and darshan of the ashes. The main stupa is circumambulated with a moving ceremony. Before sunrise, asthikalas are kept back in the basement of Chaityagiri Bihar and sealed with double lock. In the year 2019, the said ceremony was celebrated for two days on 23 November and 24 November.
